LITTLE MECCA

As a result of the 1951 United Nations ‘Refugee Convention’ which was introduced to help Jews escape from Europe and the Soviet Union, Australia is compelled to accept asylum seekers from here, there, and everywhere. We are allowed to control the flow but there are plenty of well meaning Australians who believe we should open the floodgates and welcome millions of refugees regardless of need, greed, or evil intentions.

How many millions they won’t say. Who would pay for them they haven’t a clue. Just let them in and the future will take care of itself.

Anyone who engages so much as one active brain cell will recognise the madness of such a policy.

Floodgaters challenge my figure of millions but I stand by it. My question to them is – how many Pakistanis, Afghanis, Iraqis, Iranians, Libyans, Nigerians etc will choose to stay put once they discover there’s free housing, free food, free education, free health care and cash money just a hop, skip and a cruise away? Clearly, close to half the populations of those Islamic Shangri-Las would pack their bags. Could they reach Australia? Well, a few centuries ago tens of thousands of ‘Crusaders’ marched from Europe to Jerusalem, proving that such a distance is feasible. Once the escapees reach Indonesia the Greens want to send planes to ferry them across the waters. Hey, why not send planes to their points of departure and save them the walk?

We could quickly double, triple and quadruple the population of Australia and someone has to pay for it all. We already have hundreds of thousands of homeless people here but not to worry, we’ll quickly find homes for another eighty million or so.

SHARIA LAW

The asylum seekers claim they’re escaping oppression but once they arrive here and are free of oppression it becomes obvious that most want, in fact demand, far more than an oppression-free life. They demand, and usually get, subsidised housing, free education, free medical care and cash in the hand. Still that’s not enough. They demand Sharia law, a cruel and barbaricl system that keeps women oppressed, female children mutilated and everyone living in fear of the all powerful sheikhs and mullahs.

Not all Muslims demand Sharia law. There are those known as moderates. The defining feature of moderates – Muslim, Christian, atheist, feminist – is to keep quiet while atrocities take place in your own community. Say nothing about children being married to perverted old men. Say nothing about little girls having their vaginas slashed and mutilated. Say nothing about young “dancing boys” being sodomised and murdered. Say nothing about men being whipped and beaten for chugging a beer.  Jesus said, “Resist not evil” and that is the defining character of a moderate.

Don’t make waves!

It seems to me the solution to the problem is to separate genuine asylum seekers from privilege seekers, and there is a way, a perfectly legal and humane way, of achieving that.

GIVE ME LAND, LOTS OF LAND, WHERE THE BUFF… KANGAROOS ROAM…

Tony Abbott recently suggested locating in the Northern Territories, thousands of Australians from all over the country. His plan is to offer tax incentives to encourage people to uproot from their homes and start a new life in the north of Australia. I pricked up my ears when I heard him talk about that area becoming the “food bowl of Asia”. Of course! There must be multiple hectares of fertile land up north that could be irrigated, cultivated and turned into food producing farms. Water would be a challenge but Abbott is a Rhodes scholar so I assume he’s looked into that.

But why uproot people from all over the country when we’ve got thousands of refugees wasting away in detention centres?

Here’s my idea. Lease the land to asylum seekers. Provide them with materials to build homes and schools and even mosques. Provide them with food while work is in progress. In fact provide them with everything they need until they become self sufficient. Teach them agriculture. Pay them for the food they produce which is surplus to their own requirements.

Initially I had my doubts such a plan could work because all they had to do was walk off the land, catch a train to the nearest city and demand the dole and emergency housing. But I recently learned of a Scottish family that was granted a visa on condition they lived and worked in a certain area of Queensland. They disobeyed, and as a result they were returned to Edinburgh, Scotland. And so, despite the United Nations’ rules and regs, we do apparently have some control over the situation.

TOOLS AND TRAINING

We say to the thousands of refugees presently locked up in detention centres, “OK, here’s the deal. You’re going to be released and you’ll be provided with sufficient land to create a wonderful life for yourselves. Things will be a thousand times easier for you than it was for the early settlers because the timber for your dwellings will be cut and prepared, you don’t have to chop down giant trees with primitive axes. Electricity will be provided to drive your electric power tools. Experts will be on hand to teach you the building trade. You’ll tend the land with tractors and modern machinery, not horse driven ploughs.”

If they say, “No way, we demand that we be released into the major cities and we demand a roof over our heads built by Australian workers and we demand money and all the goodies that Australians get,” then we’ll know they’re not escaping danger at all. Instead they’ve come here for the freebies. If they reject this idea they’ll be admitting that they’re weaklings compared to the early Australian settlers. They’ll be admitting that Jews and Mormons are far more resourceful and dynamic than Muslims. Such weaklings would be returned to their own countries.

HEAVEN ON EARTH

Those who accept the deal will build a fabulous life for themselves and after a period of time, say twenty years, they and their families would be invited to apply for full Australian citizenship with no restrictions. Another benefit to this idea would be employment for Aborigines who would be consulted about land rights. They would be trained in building techniques and agriculture and would become the site bosses. Muslims would graze and slaughter their own cattle. After a while live cattle exports would be banned and Indonesia would be encouraged to accept frozen carcases slaughtered in Australia by Muslims. It would be halal not hell-al.

In the late 1950s and early 1960s I was a deck boy aboard MV Whangaroa, one of the first ships with refrigerated holds. It can be done.

This is a good idea but I suspect it will be opposed by trendy lefties who’ll say, “Asylum seekers shouldn’t be expected to work. They should arrive here in their millions and be provided with everything their little Muslim hearts desire.”

If that’s what happens, our children and grand-children will inherit the wrath and the turmoil that existing tactics will generate.

ASYLUM SEEKERS – REMEDY

Asylum seekers, or “boat people” constitute the most contentious issue facing Australia right now. Prime Minister John Howard said “We will decide who enters Australia…” and after that very few “illegals” attempted the journey. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, in a show of humanitarianism, reversed that policy. Prime Minister Julia Gillard continued with Rudd’s liberal “Let ’em in” idea. The result was 1,100 (that we know of) people drowned. When the policy was reversed back again, thousands of hopefuls ended up on Christmas Island or were transported to PNG and Manus Island to vegetate.

This is what happens when caring but unthinking people fail to engage their brains and make decisions based on compassion minus logic.

I refer to boat people as “illegals” because most of them are Muslims who, IF they were in danger, reached the safety of the safest, most democratic Muslim country in the world – Indonesia. Indonesia welcomed them without even asking for visas. “No documentation? No worries mate, inya come…” Out of harm’s way, Indonesia’s new residents paid people-smugglers large sums of money to transport them from a democratic Muslim country to a secular/Christian country where they would be way less welcome.

There is nothing in the 1951 Refugee Convention says refugees can go country-shopping once they’ve reached safety. If I’m wrong in saying that, then book me a flight to New York. I’d love to become an American citizen living in the world’s most exciting city. Just tell the US government I don’t need a Green Card because America signed the 1951 Refugee Convention. Oh, and seeing as the 1951 Refugee Convention was created to help Jews migrate to Palestine, instruct Israel to tear down the latest wall, the one they’ve recently built to keep Africans out.

Anyway, regardless of that, we now we have an impossible situation. If the government grants asylum to the illegals then the boats will once again start chugging towards Australia. If we keep the illegals locked up everyone suffers and Australia earns a reputation as a heartless nation. I have a solution that will be ignored by all because it makes sense. We have two major political parties and one minor political party. The one thing they each have in common is a fear of anything that makes sense. And so this will probably go nowhere.

POLITICIANS AND THEIR OBSCENELY OBSESSIVE PERQUISITES – (PERKS)

DON’T SHOOT JOE HOCKEY

The poor bastard has inherited a mess of unprecedented proportions that is going to take a long Liberal tenure to sort out and return to some normality – if at all.

The sad reality is that Australia is made up of three types of people. Workers, bludgers and pensioners. And is desperately trying to claw every dollar they can back from this hurting system…the magnifying glass has momentarily paused above the latter category. Which is sad. We expect the pensioners to be looked after in this country. We don’t want to see elderly people homeless and destitute in Australia. And unlike Italy and Japan – we don’t have a culture of always looking after our senior citizens.

I have an immediate idea that could claw back quite a few millions. Means test the (expletive deleted) politicians for a start! Let’s take a few luminaries who really don’t deserve the largesse we give them.

STAGGERING WASTE OF MONEY

The wastage in this area alone is horrendous and is a massive burden on the taxpayer. Moreover, is it justified? Do we get any value for money? The latest revelation that both Rudd and Gillard get a $200,000 salary for the rest of their natural lives plus enormous travel allowances, office accommodation and staffing costs is an insult given that neither was poor to start with and both now have ‘jobs’. They are young enough to work. Younger than me! If I have to keep working until I am 70 plus, why don’t they?

A study in 2010 by the Daily Telegraph revealed that Mr Rudd, at 52, a young ex-prime minister, will receive well in excess of $20 million worth of allowances if he lives to 85. This is despite the fact he had served just 2 1/2 years as P.M. at that point. This of course has altered even more dramatically with his additional tenure.

Then there are a host of other benefits – the airline gold pass, which entitles ex-PMs up to 40 business class flights a year. That’s almost 1 a week! If Mr Rudd takes 30 flights annually it will cost the taxpayer more than $60,000 a year. And trust me, nobody loves flying more than Kevin Rudd! Not even bloody Sea Gulls!

Once retired, he is entitled to his own office, worth about $120,000 a year in Brisbane for the rest of his life and four staff, which political insiders say will cost $240,000 a year. What? The Rudd’s new multi-million home doesn’t have room for a home office?

Mr Rudd would also be entitled to the lease of a car worth up to $55,000 for the rest of his life. Leasing experts say this would be worth $1000 to 1500 a month. And Mr Rudd will receive all of these benefits on top of his wife’s estimated $210 million fortune!

Surely this good luck is the result of considerable ‘Government’ work being put her way and rules them out of any more wanton generosity from the Australian people.

Add to this, Gillard. This former communist who has now embraced the capitalist ideal with both arms and not a whimper of complaint I notice. She has already ditched the brick veneer in Altona for a swanky pool-side ponderosa in leafy Adelaide no doubt made possible by a $500,000 salary and ongoing perks.

MY POINT IS THIS –

I have had to make cuts to my life because things change. The expensive office I used to lease in Melbourne is gone because, with the internet I can now work from home. I now use consultants rather than employ up to 10 people which today would send me broke. I now drive a ute because it is cheaper to register and insure. Cost cutting measures made to ensure I can continue to work in a country that is very much prejudiced against senior aged workers.

Mrs Renny is not happy. I have taken over a picturesque corner of our winter lounge room and in her words – I am a messer! When the drawing board comes out, which it does at least once a month, the kitchen table is also rendered unserviceable. Not to mention several square yards around it.

Why is it then that we continue to provide multiple millions to give these buggers swanky offices to run their now quite irrelevant lives from? I mean what has Hawke’s or Keating’s offices churned out in the past few years that justifies these silly extravagances? Books about them? Utterances from them? Both could be made from their kitchen tables surely! Does an Ex-PM really need an office that costs up to $14,000 a month? They have large homes with room for an office. None lives in a ‘bed-sit’. None even knows what a ‘bed-sit’ is! Maybe they should become pensioners and find out.

Just so I am being even handed here – according to the 2010 figures Keating was in fact the most frugal as he keeps staffing costs low by engaging people on a part-time and ad hoc basis.

PERPETUAL PERKS

Each former PM is entitled to at least two staff, including a senior private secretary, and the annual wages bill of each is nearly $300,000. Mr Keating saves about $70,000 a year by using staff as he needs them instead of full time appointees.

However, new figures have come to light revealing that in the seven months after leaving office, Mr Howard spent $109,892 on limousine services, evenly split between the government Comcar service and private hire cars. Mr Howard’s office rental was the highest at $13,853 a month, closely followed by former PM Malcolm Fraser, whose 101 Collins St office in Melbourne costs taxpayers $12,122 a month.

Former Labor PMs Whitlam and Hawke have offices on adjacent floors in Sydney’s Potts Point at 100 William St. The monthly cost for each is $7464 and $7898 respectively. Mr Keating’s office is also in Potts Point, in Manning St, and costs slightly less at $7434 a month.

The former PMs also have their home and mobile phone bills paid by taxpayers, as well as unlimited allowances for publications, a private self-drive car, and air fares for them and their spouse. (Which really irks in the case of Therese Rein who has $210 million in the bank for Chrissakes!)

These are in addition to their pensions under the generous former Parliamentary superannuation scheme, which gives them a pension INDEXED TO CURRENT MPs’ SALARIES FOR LIFE! The payout they receive depends on their length of service in Parliament, which is accelerated in the case of prime ministers and their final salary.

Each PM can usually expect to receive about 70 per cent of the incumbent’s salary, unless they chose to take a lump sum on retirement. (I thank the Daily Telegraph for doing the hard yards here with the figures and info.)

I have nothing against paying our PM a wage that reflects the importance of their job, but I have lots against them making millions from us when they a) don’t really need it and b) don’t really deserve it anymore.

But now, the ones facing the fiscal axe, are the poor bloody pensioners who have worked and paid tax all their bloody lives! As for the bludgers… well that’s a whole separate issue.

It’s way past time for something completely different!

Greetings from Sunny Dundas! Dundas, in case you don’t know, is a pleasant suburb east of Parramatta and west of Carlingford. Many of the people who live here will be hit hard by Tony Abbott’s bully budget. It is a budget designed to hit the poor and the struggling while allowing the wealthy, the super wealthy and ultra super wealthy off scott free.

Most reasonable people accept that something needs to be done to fix the deficit, but only a rotten bully would dump the burden on the shoulders of those who can afford it least. Abbot and Hockey will argue that they’re going without a pay rise for one year. They must think we’re stupid. Shortly after the alleged sacrifice the gaggle of overpaid accountants who determine the earnings of politicians will say, “Well, those poor struggling Members of Parliament went a whole year without a pay rise so we’ll double it this year.”

Besides, those voracious parasites – politicians – aren’t giving up much right now. They’re not being hit one brass ha’penny at the moment. It’s being left to pensioners, the sick and disabled, sole parents, the unemployed and low-end earners to fix the problem.

Seriously, how much do you think this budget will hurt Gina Rhinehart, or James Packer, or Clive Palmer, or Frank Lowy*, or Eddie Obeid, or Gerry Harvey, or John Singleton? Those people and thousand more like them will do what they always do – employ top accountants to minimise their tax, reduce it to as close to zero as possible. What with their overseas bank accounts, their family trusts and their stables designed to run at a loss, these parasites live off the fat of the land while being subsidised by the ordinary working people of Australia.

That’s how it’s meant to be.

*Frank Lowy’s ‘Westfield’ group pays just eight cents in the dollar tax. Eight cents. Most small businesses within his shopping centres have to pay tax at the full rate. The big ones like Woolworths are probably on the same legal fiddle that he’s on.

The whole tax system was set up to favour the rich at the expense of the poor. The idea was – so long as PAYE mugs have enough money for beer, smokes, pokies and a bit left over for food, they’ll shut the fuck up while we rob them blind. And let’s face it, it’s worked really well for the multi millionaires and billionaires of this country.

It’s taken a brutally cruel budget for Australians to wake up. And wake up we must.

The Maverick Alliance (and by the way, that name might change) favours dumping all the old corrupt tax laws and starting afresh. Begin with a blank sheet. Those people who can most afford it pay the most, not as it is at the moment, pay the least. And no, I’m not a Communist. I’m all in favour of free enterprise. I’ve run my own business and enjoyed the freedom such a lifestyle bestows. But I wasn’t big enough to avoid tax. There were one or two worthwhile perks like a company car that was mostly for private use but generally speaking I wasn’t in the big league where I got off tax free. I, along with my staff, had to subsidise the kings, queens and barons of life (and I don’t mean you, Carlotta).

Abbott and Hockey are fond of saying things like “We’ve all got to share the load” and “The age of entitlement is over”. Hey, for once we agree – let’s call an end to the age of entitlement. And those who demand the biggest entitlements must be hit the hardest. Yes, let’s work towards that “level playing field” they’re fond of quoting.

This is THE BIG LIE! Never mind all the broken promises. The Big Lie is the one that says we’re all sharing the burden. How can anyone earning three or four thousand (tax minimised) dollars a week look a struggling mother in the eye and pretend we’re all doing it tough? How they must laugh. How contemptuous they are of ordinary Australians.

The first thing we would do if ever we rose to power is slash politicians’ earnings in half . We would dispense with most of their perks while they’re in office and all of their perks once they’re out of office. Some people claim that politicians aren’t paid enough. Poor things need more. Wrong, our prime minister earns more than the Canadian prime minister and the British prime minister, for far less work and responsibility. We’re always hearing how our politicans could earn far more in industry and commerce, well, some might, but the majority would be hard pressed finding employment as bus drivers or check-out chicks.

They did well at school, went onto university, got a few grades, maybe worked for a year or two as teachers or trainee accountants, then went straight into politics. It’s due to this absolute lack of understanding of how things are in the real world that we get a bully budget like the one just introduced by Abbott and Hockey.

We need change and we need it urgently. I’m not just talking about a recycling of the same old, same old, because that means little or no change. I don’t see Bill Shorten changing anything. He’s a nicer bloke than Tony Abbott but he doesn’t have the courage, the oomph or the where-with-all to make radical changes. Under Bill Shorten’s Labor the entire rotten system will remain intact, unaltered. I’m talking about a change in the way Australia works. I’m talking about non-violent revolution.
